The Godfather 1901–1959: The Complete Epic / 1981

The Godfather 1901–1959: The Complete Epic is a reduced, 386-minute version of the 1977 television miniseries, "Mario Puzo's The Godfather: The Complete Novel for Television," released to video in 1981. Unlike the miniseries, which was presented in four segments (each with opening and closing credits), the Epic is presented as a single segment. In January 2016, HBO aired the Epic in its uncut and uncensored format, later making it available on its streaming platforms. The HBO showing contained most of the known deleted scenes, thereby lengthening the runtime of the Epic from its video release to 423 minutes.

Nato con il titolo Imbavagliati e co-prodotto da Roberto Costa e Poker Film 2005 Ltd, è in un certo senso alla maniera di Forrest Gump che prende avvio Covid-19, perché, proprio come il Tom Hanks della pellicola premio Oscar di Robert Zemeckis, troviamo l’adolescente Niccolò Calvagna seduto sulla panchina della fermata di un autobus, dove fa immediatamente conoscenza con un individuo dai modi piuttosto sopra le righe dal volto del David Capoccetti. Individuo che dice di chiamarsi Covid e che, appunto, apprendiamo immediatamente essere la personificazione del virus che sta portando molti italiani alla morte. Fa da contraltare neorealista un Claudio Vanni che, stretta amicizia con il già citato Niccolò, incarna la tremendamente veritiera immagine del precario rimasto senza lavoro dopo che le chiusure delle attività obbligate dalla pandemia hanno portato a suicidarsi il proprietario del ristorante in cui svolgeva la professione di cameriere.

Roma, 9 febbraio 1968: con l’involontaria complicità del giovane professore Paolo Portoghesi, gli Uccelli fanno il nido per 36 ore sulla cupola di Sant’Ivo alla Sapienza, occupando simbolicamente quella che fu la prima università della capitale. Così, per merito dell’iniziativa di tre ragazzi di Architettura, gli studenti escono per la prima volta dalle aule universitarie per dar vita a un ‘68 diverso, partecipato, creativo. Le iniziative degli Uccelli investono la vita di facoltà, la città e tutti, ma proprio tutti i più grandi artisti del momento, con cui avranno intense relazioni, spesso autoinvitandosi a cena per capire realmente questi che persone erano e trarne ispirazione. Le loro iniziative e il loro modo di portarle avanti, rendendo la cultura, l’arte e il bello tutt’uno con la ribellione allo status quo, lasciano la sensazione che quella storia sarebbe potuta cambiare; non andò così e il ricordo degli Uccelli è volato via.
