Women who did not accept the established order. Women who participated in the creation of a fairer, more equitable world, building the world of hope we are heirs. Women whose spirits were forged by the oppression and yet took the floor. What they proclaimed has value not only for the past but for the present and the future because it represents the voice of millions of women who came together, unite and continue joining this struggle. They were not content to look, to let do or let pass; but they engaged in their daily work against injustice, misery, poverty, inequity and lack of equality. Women who have fought tirelessly for economic, social, legal and civil equality for all. Because the personal is political. So they lived so and that is why they fought participating in the construction of the Second Spanish Republic, the most democratic period of Spanish past history.

La Sauceda, de la utopía al horror / 2013

Documentary filmed between September 2012 and March 2013. It tells the story of a valley in the mountains that extends through the north of the provinces of Cádiz and Málaga, the last Republican bastion in the area when Franco's troops already occupied all of them. the nearby regions. Utopia Portals / 2022

Utopia Portals explores utopian concepts of belonging and ‘unbelonging’. Inspired by the Ashman’s first trip to her ancestral homeland of Jamaica, Utopia Portals uses a mix of animated loops, mobile phone footage and soundscapes recorded during her time on the island to create a series of short filmic ‘glitches’ of reality that reveal various forms of surreal hidden worlds. The piece is inspired by the idea of ‘heterotopia’: a concept put forward by the French philosopher Michel Foucault to describe certain cultural spaces that are somehow ‘other’: contradictory or transforming in nature. Utopia Portals delves into the dreams, desires, nightmares and reality of a “homecoming” to a home you are not connected to.

A 1996 Dutch documentary film about the Western European architects who were invited by the Soviet Union to construct “Socialist cities” in Siberia during the late 1920s and early 30s. The film draws on interviews of some of the last survivors of this time, including Jan Rutgers (of the Kuzbass Autonomous Industrial Colony), Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky (of the Ernst May group), and Philipp Tolziner (of the “Bauhaus Brigade”), and on letters, articles, and lectures written by those who have already died, including Hans Schmidt, Mart Stam, Johannes van Loghem, and Ernst May. It also follows the daily lives of contemporary residents of Magnitogorsk, Orsk, Novokuznetsk, and Kemerovo.
