A social drama about relationships in the family of the chairman of the Tajik collective farm, Mukhammedzhan Kurbanov: the sons Zafar and Kurban stand on different positions in life. The eldest son wants stability and silence, but the father says there will be no silence, progress does not stand still. Collective farmers in neighboring areas do not fulfill the norm due to lack of water. Young activists develop a plan to irrigate dry land with electric pumps to raise water up the mountains.

For Ki, the long-suffering wife, things are falling apart—her remorseless husband wishes to walk out on her and her son. Unable to cope, her uncommunicative son chooses to tune out of his parent’s arguments. Ki feebly refuses divorce to keep the family intact, but her husband is already eagerly anticipating a new marriage with a baby coming on the way. Ki has her searing anger building up behind the façade of normalcy. On the verge of a breakdown with pleading fallen on deaf ears, she takes matters into her own hands.

Without undue pathos and artificial happy ending, but with an optimistic message. The film is based on real events. January 28, 2003, a group of high school students went to climb Rysy. An avalanche killed eight of them. Parents of children who were killed face tragedies. It's hard for them to come to terms with what has happened.

Slovak musicologist Agata Schindlerová, now settled in Dresden, has spent years mapping out the forgotten destinies of Jewish musicians whose lives were irrevocably marked by the advance of nazism. Scenes from the lives of several of them are portrayed in the film In Silence (ballet dancer Alice Flachová, pianist and conductor Karol Ebert, composer, conductor and director of the Dresden Theatre Arthur Chitz, pianist Edith Kraus, and the vocal ensemble Comedian Harmonists), which draws a sharp contrast between the protagonists’ carefree existence working and making music during the pre-war era and the subsequent severe upheaval in their lives brought on by the proliferation of nazism.
