As Jess moves her pieces into place, her life unravels as she becomes "trapped" in her house with a troubled footballer, a manic TV advice show host and a randy old author and an unseen chicken.
Kevin: Roche The Quiet Architect / 2017
Kevin Roche: The Quiet Architect is a feature documentary film that considers many of the key architectural questions through the 70 year career of Pritzker Prize winning Irish-American architect Kevin Roche, including the relationship between architects and the public they serve. Still working at age 94, Kevin Roche is an enigma, a man with no interest in fame who refuses retirement and continually looks to the future regardless of age. Roche's architectural philosophy is that 'the responsibility of the modern architect is to create a community for a modern society' and has emphasised the importance for peoples well-being to bring nature into the buildings they inhabit. We consider the application of this philosophy in acclaimed buildings such as the Ford Foundation, Oakland Museum and at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art for whom Kevin Roche was their principal architect for over 40 years.

All’s Quiet in Sparkle City / 1971
The short film is simple in execution, but the message is disturbing and thought-provoking. The film is filled with low-ground shots of cockroaches crawling around a house, interlaced with voiceovers of ads and commercials for various things. We start off seeing cockroaches as an enemy, a disgusting creature to exterminate. The voiceovers of some science fiction narrative allow the audience to draw such parallels. But then violence against them occurs. We hear news broadcasts of innocent casualties of war. It becomes clear how this becomes a protest. The audience is left wondering, viewing the graveyard of cockroach carcasses, if the fear of the unknown brings out the injustice in ourselves.- Omri Curnutte

How Quiet Helps at School / 1953
The ideal classroom is still as a tomb according to this vintage Coronet Instructional short. First we see a mildly chaotic room of first graders who are then contrasted with Miss Bradley's little angels next door. Apparently opening their yaps wide only on the playground, they communicate sotto voce ("Whispering is the quiet way to talk when you have to talk!"), create only "work sounds" and even manage to move heavy wooden chairs around without making a peep. They're more productive and attentive that way, we're told, though seriously, there's something wrong with a class of six-year-olds so silent you can practically hear tumbleweeds rolling across their institutional tundra. - Dennis Harvey
