Berger, cittadino francese di mezza eta', noto nella malavita con il soprannome di "Paul les Diams", anziche' godersi in santa pace il lauto frutto d'una vita di traffici illeciti, d'accordo con alcuni emissari e in societa' con il tedesco Walter, continua un traffico di oro affidandosi a persone ridotte alla disperazione per i ricatti delle prostitute dei suoi locali. Il tipo delle persone scelte e la loro professione, garantiscono il successo delle spedizioni. Ma Paul non sa che Walter e' anche implicato, per ragioni sentimentali piu' che per guadagno, in un traffico di armi a Cuba ed ignora inoltre che lo stesso Walter sta scatenando contro di lui sia la malavita statunitense, che subodora il grosso affare, sia le forze di polizia...
