Michael C. Hall è nato a Raleigh, nella Carolina del Nord, da Janice (Styons), consigliere di orientamento, e William Carlyle Hall, che ha lavorato per IBM. Michael è laureato al Master of Fine Arts del NYU in recitazione. È noto per il personaggio titolare "Dexter" in Dexter (2006) e nel ruolo di "David Fisher" Six Feet Under (2001). La sua ultima esibizione a Broadway è stata "Hedwig" in "Hedwig and the Angry Inch". In precedenza, Hall ha interpretato il personaggio di "Cabaret", "Billy Flynn" in "Chicago" e "John Jones" in "The Realistic Joneses".
